Deutsch: Die Büste zeigt Ottavio Grimani (1516–1576), der seit 1571 Prokurator von San Marco war. Im Staat Venedig waren die neun Prokuratoren die ranghöchsten Beamten, aus deren Reihen der Doge gewählt wurde. Im Werk des Alessandro Vittoria spielen die zahlreichen Bildnisbüsten eine besondere Rolle. Vor allem Mitglieder der venezianischen Aristokratie und Staatsbeamte ließen sich von dem hochgeschätzten Bildhauer porträtieren. Für seine Porträts entwickelte Vittoria eine an Bildnisbüsten der römischen Antike erinnernde Standardform, die er mehr oder weniger variierte. Stets zeigen sie würdevolle, ernsthafte Persönlichkeiten. Die meisten seiner Büsten fanden an öffentlichen Orten, zumeist an Grabmälern, Aufstellung. Auch das repräsentative Berliner Bildnis dürfte für einen solchen Ort konzipiert worden sein, vermutlich sogar als Gegenstück zu der ebenfalls von Vittoria geschaffenen Büste von Ottavios Vater in der Grimani-Kapelle in S. Sebastiano, wo auch Ottavio später beigesetzt wurde.
