Cities and Bridges

[edit]

How about "Cities, villages and Bridges"? --miya (talk) 16:28, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me. Translations will have to be updated. -- Rillke(q?) 08:07, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What about MediaWiki:Com-poty-cat-settlements and bridges? While towns are neither cities nor villages, all these are settlements. @99of9: A native English speaker could be of help here. -- Rillke(q?) 08:17, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You are right in terms of meaning. My only concern is that bridges seems a little unusual as a conceptually small tack on to settlements. Would "Settlements and infrastructure" be too broad and capture too much? --99of9 (talk) 10:39, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, 99of9. I guess we can fill a whole category of "infrastructure" (we have several photos of roads under "constructions and buildings") and one with "cities". @Beria, Miya, and Odisha1: What do you think? -- Rillke(q?) 14:48, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it will be fine "Settlements" in place of cities, villages; But "infrastructure" is the wider term and can be replaced by "Transport Infrastructure" for roads, bridges -- Odisha1 (talk) 19:52, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

if ( mw.config.get( 'wgPageName' ) === 'Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2014/Candidates' ) {

It's supposed to create a dropdown - demo video -- Rillke(q?) 10:13, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

File:Trompe l oeil Emperor's Courtyard Residenz Munich.jpg (2014-04/66) may be sorted to "Interiors and details" because it is "Trompe l oeil".--miya (talk) 12:40, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Go ahead. -- Rillke(q?) 20:49, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stop for the next two hours

[edit]

For the next five two hours or so, I'll be busy elsewhere. Therefore there won't be edit conflicts with me etc. -- please check what I've categorized so far and continue. Most of the time I went very quickly over the files so chances are high that I missed something. When everything is categorized we might want to look into new categories like "buildings and cities at night" or similar to avoid categories with over 90 files. Thanks a lot! -- Rillke(q?) 13:09, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can monitor the counts, e.g. on Commons:Picture of the Year/2014/Rules#Categories. -- Rillke(q?) 13:12, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Voting is open, please test and report issues

[edit]

and please do not send out notifications, yet. I'll look into some stylistic fixes and categorization issues tomorrow. -- Rillke(q?) 20:48, 17 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Category split up

[edit]

As previously advertised, I would like to split up some categories as they are huge and hard to appreciate by our visitors:

Constructions and buildings

[edit]
  • Constructions and buildings (121-24=97)
  • Religious buildings (51-6=45)
  • Cities and bridges (66-25=41)
  • Castles and fortifications (44-8=36)
    • -> Artificially illuminated outdoor spaces (24+6+25+8=63)

Interiors and details

[edit]
  • Interiors and details (134)
    • -> Frescos, ceilings and stained glass (approx. 30)

Nature views

[edit]
  • Nature views (108)
    • -> waters (approx. 57)
    • -> without waters (approx. 51)
  • Nature views (108)
    • -> mountain ranges (approx. 60)
    • -> without mountain ranges (approx. 48)

Thoughts? -- Rillke(q?) 09:03, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Interiors is certainly rather big, and 13 instead of 7 galleries still handable. Sounds like a good plan, if there's still time for this. –Be..anyone (talk) 13:20, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is currently listed under Castles and fortifications; should it be a member of Interiors and details? -- Rillke(q?) 09:31, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The latter, and without those very irritating annotations, please. That can be disabled per image (if there are annotations for other images making sense for POTY) or per page (all images on a page), I've tested "per page" recently (wfm.) –Be..anyone (talk) 12:47, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

is currently listed under Nature views. Should it be a member of People and human activities? -- Rillke(q?) 09:32, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good as is, unless a picture can be in more than one gallery here. –Be..anyone (talk) 12:35, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Checking FP candidates logs

[edit]

@Beria, Rillke, and Odisha1: Please check these.--miya (talk) 17:01, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Now I'm checking FP candidates. Please check File:Borgund Stave Chuch in Lærdalen, 2013 June.jpg - it seems featured on 1 August 2014 (Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Borgund Stave Chuch in Lærdalen, 2013 June.jpg) but I cant find it in Commons:Featured pictures/chronological/2014-B nor POTY gallery.--miya (talk) 15:12, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please check File:S.M. Linienschiff Baden - restoration, borderless.jpg - it seems featured on 5 July 2014 but has no FP star in its description page and I cant find it in FP2014-B nor in poty galleries.--miya (talk) 16:05, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ops, I missed it. As they eligible for POTY2014, I am adding these two images -- Odisha1 (talk) 19:56, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Odisha1 !--miya (talk) 07:14, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
