English: Supplementary Movie 3 Simulation for reproducing the reverse Ostwald ripening and gathering effect. In the simulation, the small bubbles gradually shrink until vanishing, while the large bubbles cannot grow infinitely. Once the large bubbles fill the dodecagonal cells, their bubbles will deform into meniscuses under the effect of pillars. Then radii of curvature for these bubbles will decrease sharply, which allows them to be adsorbed by the smaller surrounding bubbles. Therefore the bubbles shift back to the dodecagonal cells until having the larger radii of curvature. This is the reverse Ostwald ripening. Meanwhile, during the evolution, bubbles selectively evolve into dodecagonal cells, showing the gathering effect. |
