[edit]DescriptionSpace Station Live- Fruit Fly Lab.webm |
English: NASA commentator Lori Meggs talks with Dr. Sharmila Bhattacharya of the NASA Ames Research Center, the principal investigator of the Fruit Fly Lab experiment that arrived at the International Space Station on the recent Dragon cargo ship. More than 200 fruit flies are part of the research, standing in as models for the human immune system for studies of the biological effects of living in low Earth orbit for extended periods. Understanding immune system changes on a molecular level with the fruit flies can provide insight into how human immune systems combat pathogens.
