Ecclesiastical parishes[edit]

Ecclesiastical parishes differ from civil parishes. See Category:Civil parishes of Ireland for an example. Laurel Lodged (talk) 13:36, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wieralee, yesterday you renamed that category. Would it make sense to rename the subcategories as well? Windharp (talk) 07:48, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fay coat-of-arms[edit]

Hi Wieralee,
Thank you for renaming the Fay coats-of-arms files :
Blason famille fr de Faÿ, Blason famille fr de Faÿ d'Etables, Blason famille fr de Faÿ de Villiers
Nevertheless, the correct spelling is actually Fay and not Faÿ, that's why I've asked for this exact correction.
It wasn't a mistake on my part, the error is a reading error that occurred a long time ago and that has spread to the articles.
If you look at the first reference url in the first file, there's the correct spelling, and Faÿ is indicated in brackets to specifiy the pronunciation.
The 2nd reference also gives the correct spelling.
References for the 2 other files can be found here (pages 199, 201), and also give the correct spelling.
A more recent reference is also available (Jougla de Morenas, t. III, p. 356).
Is it possible for you to reprocess the files with the correct spelling ?

  • @Kontributor 2K: I was thinking about it... And I saw its usement at fr.wiki => look here. It's widely used as "Faÿ", the "Fay" spelling is in the minority. The original uploader (who's opinion is most impostant - he can always change the name using criterion #1 of renaming) named it "Faÿ", too... But it's not my personal -- you can change it, if you're sure that this is the consensus of the entire French community. Have a nice day :) Wieralee (talk) 15:53, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is that someone started on wp with the wrong spelling, also did some priests in some parish records…
I won't waste time unravelling the source of the error and discuss this point on wp:fr - id'rather make new files and replace them in articles.
The fact about these coat-of-arms is that, according to the references, the current spelling is absolutely erroneous.
I have enough experience on the french wiki, to be able to say that uploaders gladly copy each other's mistakes or rely more on articles than on sources… meaning they trust other users that trust other users, more than books. That's what did Bizcayen with the first file, and SanglierT with the 2 others.
@Bizcayen: @SanglierT: il y a une faute d'orthographe !!! --> une source en plus : Grand armorial de France, t. III, p. 356
Have a nice day too,
